Even Lousy acupuncture works better than Western Medicine for Back Pain

Here's a link to an article (and an ABC News video) about how acupuncture, even if done incorrectly, still works better than conventional pharma/surgical therapies in the treatment of back pain.

There's been a lot of news lately also showing that those expensive spinal fusion surgeries are very invasive and often don't do squat. You might want to try acupuncture first: click here.

That's what I have used acupuncture most for - my back! I have definitely noticed that some acupuncturists are better than others but interesting to see here that even the bad ones are better than western med for backs! I have never been to a western doc for neck and back pain so I don't have that experience. But I did have one acupuncturist that was so good that each time I had a pain I would feel all better immediately after the appointment.

  2. "Lousy" is an interesting interpretation. The AP article I saw describes a placebo acupuncture...but the result was the same. After all, acupressure is effective too.

  3. Oh, the ABC video with Charlie Gibson characterizes it as "even if your acupuncturist does it wrong" or something like that. Very catchy!

I believe that acupuncture is very useful, but doing it incorrectly doesn't make it any better than Western Medicine.

The first time I saw acupuncture, I thought it was painful because of all the needles. I never thought anything like that could make a difference to the world of medicine.

In addition to acupuncture sleeping on a memory foam mattress can really help alivate back pain.
