Soy, OY!

When I was a vegeterian, there was nothing like grabbing some Tofu Pups or a Boca Burger, finish it off with some soy ice cream since I was milk intolerant.

As you know from reading previous posts, the only soy foods the FertilityBitch recommends are fermented ones and the occasional tofu, bean sprouts, etc.

This article from Emagazine is mostly about how soy isn't quite the "green" food it's made out to be, either. And a fun fact: "
But for most of history, soy protein was a waste product, and mainly used in the U.S. as a sealant on cardboard,"which was how it was determined to be "safe." Blech.

The Tofu Trap

Our Soy Habit Has Environmental Consequences

By Erin Barnes

...
Global soybean production increased ninefold between 1965 and 2005, from 30 million to 270 million tons, according to the Chicago Board of Trade. Soy oil production increased sevenfold over the same time period. And it’s no accident: The American soy industry spends $80 million annually finding new markets for soy consumption. The industry is in the hands of just a few companies, namely Cargill, Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) and Bunge.

The sad thing is, I used to look at a box of soy nuggets with ketchup and steamed broccoli as a relatively healthy meal. I know they are controversial, but the Weston Price diet (with modifications, I hardly eat as much meat as they suggest) has been the healthiest diet for me.

Chix Stix for me...sigh! Weston Price diet is all about pulling stuff out of the ground and eating it fresh!

I read an article about the extreme increase in soy production in Brazil due to demand and ever since felt terribly conflicted about purchasing soy milk (if I remember correctly, it was a National Geographic article), which I used to purchase tons of. I don't anymore. I used to go take my 8th Continent coupons to the grocery with a smile plastered on my face, but the article put an end to it.

The weston price group is an extremely biased, agenda-based anti-vegetarian/vegan lobbying group. They don't give a hoot about the environment, their main goal is to dissuade compassionate people from choosing vegetarian and instead either resuming or continuing the consumption of animal parts and fluids. The organic soymilk we drink has nothing to do with south american rainforest destruction. 90 percent of all soy grown goes toward feeding animals for meat production, that's a fact. The weston pricers know that soy foods are a great stepping stone away from eating animals which is exactly why they bash soy above all else. They just always forget to mention that eating animal protein, even organic varieties, is a direct cause of heart disease and cancer in the human body, a hundred times worse than soy could ever be. Not to mention that all forms of animal agriculture waste vast amounts of water, feed and land resources, all of which could feed far more human beings if not being cycled through animals. Not to mention the intentional chasing down and stabbing, shooting or beating to death of another living being against his or her will, that is always required when producing meat, whether the farms are large or small, it always requires intentional violence.
