McDonald's seeking moms' approval

From the Chicago Tribune
McDonald's has equipped six mothers with laptop computers to record their impressions of its operations over the next few months. The moms were chosen by an independent company from a group of 4,000 applicants, and the blogs and journals will be posted "unedited" beginning June 20 on McDonald's home page, where it hopes to attract other moms interested in seeing the comments, officials said last week.
The sad thing is, I don't think McDonald's really needs approval from moms...look at their sales, and the number of obese kids (these stats are from the article):

According to the Centers for Disease Control, obesity rates have soared over the past 20 years. Now, 32.9 percent of adults are considered obese, and 18.8 percent of children ages 6 to 11 are obese. In children ages 12 to 19, 17.4 percent are obese.

I have friends who are doctors and they bring their kids there several time a week!

True. With the increasing number of obese people, they should try more healthy foods.

I agree. No matter how safe they want to show they are, they're still well know to serve certain kinds of foods.

We were starving once and stopped at a McD's to use the bathroom. I was going to get a grilled chicken salad, which looked ok, but when I requested the nutrition thing (you have to ask) the list of ingredients even for the "healthy choice" was truly horrifying (MSG, transfats, coloring) so I decided it'd be healthier to fast, which I did :)

We watched "Super Size Me" this week-end and McDonald's no longer feels like an option.

Nice to see you, Mo! Next, read FAST FOOD NATION!

I really don't get it. McDonalds food is so gross. I had to agree with Pollan's description of McDonalds food in The Omnivore's Dilemma...lacking in genuine taste. And you have to pay a fortune for this sub standard food. No thanks.

Fast Food Nation is real eye opener. I recommend it too.

Tiffany,

I was going to recommend Omnivore's Dilemma next. That sounds like a good order:

Supersize me
Fast Food Nation
Omnivore's Dilemma

--for aversion therapy for McDonald's!

I really love this quote from the original article:

"As a mother, I understand the priority moms place on ensuring a safe, nutritious, high-quality meal for their family," said Susan Forsell, McDonald's vice president"

What a bunch of BS. You don't get nutrition or high quality from McDonald's, no matter what you order.

My thoughts exactly! I think having an occasional treat could be okay (maybe once a year?) but no one should fool themselves that they aren't putting crap either into themselves or their children!

McDonalds is my favorite fast food restaurant. Everything tastes so delicious. However, they claim it to be unhealthy. Almost all the fast food restaurants serve unhealthy food. On the www.pissedconsumer.com I found out very much information about the company. Besides, the customers’ reviews are of a great use. However, your blog is also very informative, try to browse www.pissedconsumer.com. There you may also share your opinion.
